My work investigates how concepts of self are affected by memories of specific events. Obstacles become launching points. Recycling perceived memories through the mature perspective of the present assist in the development of allostasis, or the balancing and stabilizing of basic physiological life functions during changing environmental and developmental contexts. My goal is to gain an understanding of the self and to use art as a means for communicating with levels of my unconscious in an intense experiment of self-discovery.

My paintings document the transformative process while the sculptures allow a resting place for contemplation giving the roots time to take hold. Together they keep outer events from becoming core identifiers of self and place them in new configurations which construct an active identity while maintaining empathy and acceptance for their origin.
